The base new Ford Expedition lineup at Akins Ford near Atlanta, GA, gives you the choice of three trim levels – the 2018 Ford Expedition XLT, the 2018 Ford Expedition Limited and the 2018 Ford Expedition Platinum. There are 2018 Expedition MAX models for each trim level, as well, creating a total of six new Ford Expedition trim levels to choose from. The new Expedition MAX trim levels include the 2018 Expedition MAX XLT, the 2018 Expedition MAX Limited and the 2018 Expedition MAX Platinum.

Are Higher 2018 Ford Expedition Trim Levels More Powerful?

While it is true that each 2018 Ford Expedition and 2018 Expedition MAX trim level is powered by the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, the power output is higher for the new Expedition Platinum trim levels. In fact, new Ford Expedition XLT, Limited, MAX XLT and MAX Limited trim levels provide 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, whereas the new Ford Expedition Platinum and MAX Platinum models up those power ratings to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.

Is Power the Only Difference Between the 2018 Ford Expedition Trim Levels?

The short answer: No, power is not the only difference between the new Ford Expedition trim levels. In fact, the rear axle is also different. More specifically, 2018 Expedition XLT and Limited trim levels featuring a 4×2 configuration include a 3.15 non-limited-slip rear axle. Conversely, every other trim level and configuration includes a 3.31 non-limited-slip rear axle. Tow hooks are also standard on all 4×4 2018 Expeditions, while the SYNC 3 infotainment system is standard on all trim levels except the 2018 Expedition XLT, which gets the SYNC infotainment system standard.
