What apps are available on the new Ford SYNC 3?

As we gear up for the Ford keynote tomorrow morning (January 5) at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, it’s a great time to look at some of the latest technology coming out of Ford Motors. The Ford Smart Mobility program has long been one of the major pushes for the company, striving to offer customers ever more connectivity options. With the new Ford SYNC system, drivers will have even more ways to integrate their smartphones and vehicles. But what apps are available on the new Ford SYNC?

In addition to the Ford Sync Connect App that will be making its debut on the 2017 Ford Escape, new Ford vehicles with SYNC 3 will be available with a host of new apps to enhance the driving experience. With over 15 million SYNC-equipped vehicles on the road around the world, that’s a lot of drivers who are able to find out what they want when they want it.

Ford SYNC 3 Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available on Ford vehicles with the new system. This includes all 2017 model year vehicles hitting the lot this year. Some 2016 model year Ford vehicles equipped with Ford SYNC will be able to upgrade for these apps later this year.

With Apple CarPlay, iPhone users can plug their phone into their vehicle and seamlessly access many apps and functions of their phones through the car’s system, including Siri and phone and text functions.
Google Android users will also be able to use features like Google Maps, Google voice search, and other Google Apps though their vehicle using the Android Auto app.

Mileage and location tracking apps with Ford SYNC

With new location detection technology available through the enhanced SYNC 3 system, other location and mileage tracking apps will be able to use information through your Ford vehicle to function.
The AAA app will be able to use the GPS on your Ford to find gas stations, fuel prices and track the most efficient route (even accounting for traffic) to where you want to go. The Concur business expense tracking system will also be able to automatically track vehicle mileage during a business trip, streamlining the process of being reimbursed for it.

Other apps like Eventseeker and Cityseeker will be able to use the vehicle GPS to locate local attractions and easily suggest events, restaurants, and nightlife locations based on your location.

Ford is devoted to breaking new ground in connectivity, ranging from advances in Ford SYNC technology, to next year’s testing of the autonomous Ford Fusion Hybrid on the streets of California that may lead to the next breakthrough in self-driving cars. New apps to enhance the driver experience are always coming out, so keep watching this blog for the latest updates on Ford technology and advancement.
