To give you a truck that offers confidence and great power, Ford engineers went to Alaska this winter for two weeks in minus 30-degree temperatures. Their aim was to fine-tune the F-150<\/a> Lightning pickup\u2019s performance on low-traction surfaces like ice and snow and in extreme cold. This test was performed so that there is no scope of low-traction or slippage when you drive the truck during winter. Formally known as the low-mu testing, this type of powertrain evaluation looks at how the all-electric powertrain adjusts power delivery to the wheels on low-traction surfaces \u2013 usually snow and ice in extremely cold temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fleet of six F-150<\/a> Lightning pre-production units was driven by Ford engineers on different kinds of surfaces like packed-groomed snow, loose snow, half ice-half concrete surfaces, complete ice, and more in the freezing temperatures. The F-150 Lightning pickup is able to sense wheel slip and adjust its power to the wheels within milliseconds because of the quick responses of the all-electric powertrain. Apart from Alaska, the Ford team has conducted low-mu testing in Michigan\u2019s Upper Peninsula, Johnson Valley, Borrego Springs, and at Ford\u2019s Michigan Proving Grounds near Romeo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
