It&#8217;s about the size and shape of a hockey puck, and doesn&#8217;t look like much, but this elegant technology has a visual sensor range of 200 meters, which is about 50 car lengths.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18786\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-ds.com\/blogs-media\/sites\/678\/2016\/01\/23074208\/LiDAR-Sensing-Technology-on-New-Ford-Autonomous-Vehicles_B1_o.jpg\" alt=\"LiDAR Sensing Technology on New Ford Autonomous Vehicles\" width=\"768\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn-ds.com\/blogs-media\/sites\/678\/2016\/01\/23074208\/LiDAR-Sensing-Technology-on-New-Ford-Autonomous-Vehicles_B1_o.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn-ds.com\/blogs-media\/sites\/678\/2016\/01\/23074208\/LiDAR-Sensing-Technology-on-New-Ford-Autonomous-Vehicles_B1_o-300x195.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The PUCK can fit in the mirrors of each <a href=\"http:\/\/www.akinsford.com\/clp-2016-ford-fusion-atlanta-ga\">Ford Fusion<\/a> Hybrid testing vehicle and offer plenty of information about other vehicles and road conditions. While the Solid-State Hybrid Ultra PUCK Auto sensors are a new breakthrough, Ford has been using LiDAR technology from Velodyne since the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) autonomous vehicle challenges in 2005.
