2016 Ford Focus vs 2016 Kia Forte
Compact cars originally were known for offering great fuel economy in a functional, but not frilly, vehicle. The current generation of compact cars has changed this perception. Car-shoppers can now choose from a long list of sporty new compacts that offer a great combination of fuel economy and performance. The 2016 Ford Focus vs 2016 Kia Forte compares two of the best in this new trend of sporty and stylish compacts.
A compact car needs an engine that is small enough to offer great fuel economy, but still produce enough power to make the car fun to drive. Both the Ford Focus and the Kia Forte are powered by four-cylinder base engines. The 2.0-liter offered on the Focus is able to outperform the 1.8-liter standard on the Forte. The Focus offers more power than the Forte, with its peppy engine producing 160 horsepower, besting the 145 offered by the Kia.
With a compact car, fuel economy is still extremely important. The Focus is able to edge the Forte slightly, offering 27 city/40 highway miles per gallon, one more than the Forte in each category. For the best fuel economy numbers, the 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine offered as an option on the Focus is the way to go. With a manual transmission, an EcoBoost Focus earns an estimated 30 city/42 highway miles per gallon.
If you’re looking to absolutely maximize your fuel economy, the 2016 Ford Focus can be had in a completely electric model. The Focus Electric offers a driving range of 76 miles and can be charged at home in four hours. An electric Kia Forte model is not available.
2016 Ford Focus Safety Features
Safety is a great concern for just about every vehicle. Both the Ford Focus and the Kia Rio earned five-star government safety ratings. However, the Focus offers several standard safety features, such as a rearview camera, that are only optional on the Forte. For even more added safety, the Focus offers a Technology package that adds features like a blind-spot warning system, rear-cross traffic alerts and a lane-departure warning system.
The interior of the Focus offers all the features necessary to keep everyone comfortable and entertained on the next long road trip. Connectivity via Bluetooth and USB is standard on the base Focus. Higher trims include features like a 10-speaker Sony sound system, satellite radio and leather upholstery.
The 2016 Kia Rio simply cannot compete with the 2016 Ford Focus. The Focus offers a better blend of fuel economy and power all surrounded by a comfortable and safe vehicle. Very few cars in the compact market can match the 2016 Ford Focus.
