2018 Ford Explorer: More Standard Power, More Max Power and More Cargo Capacity than the 2018 VW Atlas
We’ll say this for the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas – it does it’s best to keep pace with the 2018 Ford Explorer. Though it doesn’t offer as many engine options as the new Ford Explorer lineup, the new VW Atlas lineup does offer comparable standard torque. That’s where the similarities end, however. The standard power ratings for the 2018 Ford Explorer lineup are 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, while the standard power ratings for the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas lineup are 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The new Ford Explorer lineup then drastically pulls away from the new Volkswagen Atlas lineup when it comes to max power ratings. That’s because the most powerful engine for the 2018 Explorer lineup offers 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, whereas the most powerful engine for the 2018 Atlas lineup offers only 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque.
You’re also getting more cargo capacity with the 2018 Ford Explorer lineup. More specifically, the new Explorer lineup provides 21 cubic-feet of cargo space when all of its seats are in place, while the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas lineup provides only 20.6 cubic-feet of cargo space.
