2019 Ford Ranger vs 2018 Toyota Tacoma
Now that its monumental 2018 model year is in the books, Ford is looking to make its 2019 model year even more exhilarating. And it’s doing that, in part, by moving to reenter – and reclaim – the midsize pickup truck segment with the all-new 2019 Ford Ranger.
After taking some time off, the all-new Ford Ranger is returning for the new model year to put all other midsize truck lineups on notice. And it’s doing that thanks to a next generation powertrain, a powerful and capable body, a fully functional interior, and a wide array of incredibly impressive all-new off-road features and capabilities. With all of that in mind, we decided now is the perfect time to see how the all-new Ranger stacks up against some of its competition. And we’re starting that off with this 2019 Ford Ranger versus 2018 Toyota Tacoma head-to-head comparison.

Comparing the 2019 Ford Ranger Lineup and the 2018 Toyota Tacoma Lineup in Terms of Powertrain Features and Off-Road Features
Let’s kick off our 2019 Ranger versus 2018 Tacoma comparison the same way we start most of our model comparisons – under the hood. The 2019 Ford Ranger lineup features an all-new next generation 2.3-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that is far more powerful and far more efficient than the 2018 Toyota Tacoma lineup’s 2.7-liter Inline 4-Cylinder engine. And while we don’t know what will be under the hood of the 2019 Tacoma lineup, we’d still bet the farm that it pales in comparison to the 2019 Ranger’s engine.
Let’s now take things off-road, where the all-new Ford Ranger really shines thanks to its available FX4 Off-Road Package, its fully updated and enhanced Terrain Management system, and its all-new Trail Control system, which is, in the simplest of terms, cruise control for off-road adventures. The 2018 Tacoma lineup does offer a TRD Off-Road Package, but nothing it features can come close to matching the off-road capabilities of the 2019 Ford Ranger lineup.
