The 2025 Ford Super Mustang Mach-E

Conquering the Clouds: The Super Mustang Mach-E at Pikes Peak

The Ford Super Mustang Mach-E

Every year, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb challenges the most advanced automotive technology on a truly legendary stage. For us at Akins Ford, an automotive dealership in Winder, GA, it’s a thrill to watch Ford Performance push the limits of what’s possible, especially with electric vehicles. This year, all eyes are on the Ford Super Mustang Mach-E, a radical machine built to dominate America’s Mountain.

What Makes This Mach-E So Super?

This isn’t your everyday electric SUV; this is the Ford Super Mustang Mach-E Electric Demonstrator, a purpose-built beast engineered for one of the world’s most demanding races. Inspired by the road-going Mustang Mach-E, this all-electric marvel is the result of deep collaboration between Ford Design, aero, and Vehicle Dynamics teams, brought to life with partners at STARD Advanced Research and Development. Its mission: to conquer the 12.42 miles and 156 turns of Pikes Peak.

What truly sets it apart are its staggering specifications:

  • Lighter Weight: Approximately 250 pounds lighter than last year’s F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, promoting enhanced agility and better weight distribution – crucial for navigating the climb to 14,115 feet.
  • Immense Power: Equipped with three UHP 6-Phase motors, it delivers a brutal 1,400+ horsepower. This immense power is fed by a 50kWh high-performance battery pack, operating on a 799V electrical system.
  • Aggressive Aerodynamics: The Super Mustang Mach-E generates a staggering 6,900 pounds of downforce at 150 mph. This incredible downforce keeps the vehicle glued to the asphalt, even through high-altitude hairpins. For road course racing, this figure can climb to 12,000 pounds at 200 mph.
  • Powerful Regenerative Braking: It boasts 710kW of regenerative braking, ensuring consistent performance and optimal energy recovery throughout the punishing ascent.
  • Race-Proven Components: The vehicle features a carbon braking system, forged magnesium wheels, and Pirelli P-Zero tires, all engineered to withstand the extreme conditions of the mountain.

The Mountain and the Master Driver

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb presents a unique challenge: rapidly changing altitude, thinning air, and relentless corners. This makes it an ideal proving ground for advanced electric vehicle technology. Every bit of data collected from the Mustang Mach-E vs Pike’s Peak challenge – from battery performance to thermal management and regenerative braking strategies – directly informs the development of future Ford electric vehicles for consumers.

Of course, a machine this advanced demands an equally skilled driver. Ford Performance has the legendary Romain Dumas behind the wheel. Dumas holds the overall Pikes Peak record and intimately knows every inch of the mountain. This year marks his tenth run up the peak and his third with Ford Performance, a testament to his expertise and the trust he places in Ford’s electric demonstrators. As Dumas himself put it, “This Mach-E is a different beast. We’re pushing the limits again, and that’s what the mountain is all about.” Indeed, the Super Mustang Mach-E recently secured an Open class win at the 2025 Pikes Peak event, finishing second overall on a shortened course due to severe weather.

From Racetrack to Road: Ford’s Electric Future

Ford’s commitment to Pikes Peak with electric demonstrators, now for the third straight year, highlights its dedication to electric performance. It began in 1916 with a Model T, and today, more than a century later, Ford continues its climb with cutting-edge electric horsepower. The learnings from these extreme environments are invaluable. They directly contribute to refining regenerative braking, optimizing thermal management, and designing more efficient motors that will eventually benefit the Ford electric vehicles you can drive every day.
