Is Ford Working on Any New Hybrid or Electric Vehicles?

If you look back on the history of the automotive industry, you’ll see a variety of phases that cars, trucks and SUVs have gone through. Most recently, a phase highlighting the importance of fuel efficiency, including the rise of the hybrid, has come to pass. And with the rise of the hybrid has come the rise of the fully-electric vehicle. No longer are electric vehicles tiny, impractical cars that have a better chance of leaving you stranded somewhere than they do getting you to your destination. Instead, they’re now viewed as the future of the industry. So much so, in fact, that Ford has announced numerous electrified vehicles it plans to introduce in the next five years, including hybrid versions of two of its most iconic vehicles – the F-150 and Mustang.

Detailing Ford’s Electrification Plans

The upcoming hybrid versions of the Ford F-150 and Mustang – expected to be released by 2020 – are part of Ford’s $4.5 billion investment in electrified vehicles. The goal of their plan is to offer customers greater fuel efficiency, capability and power across Ford’s model lineup. Ford is focusing its electric vehicle plan on its areas of strength – electrifying its most popular, high-volume commercial vehicles, trucks, SUVs and performance vehicles to make them even more capable, productive and fun to drive.

“As more and more consumers around the world become interested in electrified vehicles, Ford is committed to being a leader in providing consumers with a broad range of electrified vehicles, services and solutions that make people’s lives better. Our investments and expanding lineup reflect our view that global offerings of electrified vehicles will exceed gasoline-powered vehicles within the next 15 years.” – Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO.
