Ford Maverick’s e-DIY Electrical Systems (“MaverickClass” Style)
The Ford Maverick isn’t just a pickup—you might say it’s a “pickup plus toolbox.” One of its standout features is a factory-designed DIY electrical hookup system (sometimes called e-DIY) that lets owners add accessories like lighting, air pumps, or power ports without chopping up the wiring harness or voiding the warranty. Here’s how it works and why it’s legit:
- Prewired 12-volt power feeds: The Maverick has two 12V, 20-amp connectors behind blanking/removable plates, one on each side of the truck bed. These are ready to plug into with “pigtail” connectors supplied by Ford (or aftermarket), so you don’t have to hack into core electrical wiring. Motor1.com+2Pickup Truck +SUV Talk+2
- Safety & design: Because Ford saw people already messing with tail-lights etc., they preemptively engineered this in. The e-DIY setup is fused, accessible, and safer—reducing risk of short circuits, damage, or warranty issues. Pickup Truck +SUV Talk+1
- What you can power: LED bed lighting, portable air compressors, small appliances (depending on the power draw), etc. There are also 110V/400W outlets (bed and cabin) on some models, so you won’t just be stuck with 12V for everything. Maynards Garage+1
Why It’s a Big Deal (and Some Limits)
- Flexibility for owners: If you like customizing, camping, overlanding, or just want a work truck that does more, this system removes a lot of friction. Less wire-hunting, fewer special parts, more plug-and-play.
- Warranty-friendly: Because Ford built it in, using the connectors doesn’t tend to conflict with warranty or cause you to void stuff, as long as you use the approved connectors and keep things safe.
- Power constraints: Don’t expect to power a full compressor station or run heavy AC gear nonstop. The 12V circuits are limited (20A), so you’ll need to pick your accessories wisely. Heavy loads or long runs will still tax the system.
