New Bulletproof Panels on Ford Police Interceptor Sedan and Utility Vehicles

Keeping our men and women in uniform safe on the job can sometimes mean outfitting them with the latest in computing technology, like on the new Dodge Charger Pursuit, but sometimes it means getting tougher than anything that can be thrown at them. This is why the new bulletproof panels on Ford Police Interceptor sedan and utility vehicles can mean such a big difference for our law enforcement personnel.

Last year, Ford Police Interceptors were honored as one of the fastest vehicles available to law enforcement, and now they are available with heavy-duty bulletproof paneling so each officer can be safer as well.

Ford Interceptors Now Can Stop Armor-Piercing Rounds

The new bulletproof panels on Ford Police Interceptors are the first pursuit-rated police vehicles in the US to offer protection against heavy duty gunfire, up to .30 caliber armor-piercing rounds. Protective ballistic paneling for lower impact rounds has already been used in police vehicles around the nation. Check out the video below to see a test and explanation of how the new panels work.

“The fact that we design our Police Interceptors around officer feedback is what has made them number one. Officers globally told us they needed protection from armor piercing ammunition and we added increased ballistic protection to an already great product – that’s continuous innovation,” said Arie Groeneveld, chief engineer, Ford Police Interceptors, in a recent Ford press release.

Other technology that keeps police offers safe in these Ford vehicles includes: specialty crash protection structures that redirect and absorb the energy of collisions; cutting edge aluminum, plastics and boron steel materials in body construction; and specialty police suspension, brakes and interior options.

We’re unlikely to see paneling like this in our Ford inventory here at at Akins, but we’re proud to be part of an auto company that works so hard to protect those who protect us. Here’s hoping that these bulletproof panels get very little use!
