The Ford Motor Company is always pushing the envelop on new technology that delivers on stronger, more efficient, and greener technology, and they have done it again! This is a huge step toward a world where our automobiles are no longer dependent on foreign fuels, and can run even more efficiently.

The 2016 Ford F-150 with the 5.0-liter V8 engine will now be available with a gaseous-fuel prep option straight from the factory. In addition to the great towing and hauling capability already inherent in this truck, that will make it the only light-duty pickup currently available with this option. The great F-150 was recently named the 2016 Green Truck of the Year by Green Car Journal, and this new ability to run on renewable compressed natural gas was at least one aspect of that achievement.

New Cars with better than 30 mpgThe gaseous-fuel prep package for the F-150 offers hardened valves, valve seats, pistons and piston rings to allow it to run on natural gas, propane, or gasoline via separate fuel systems. With this engine package installed, the 5.0-liter V8 should be able to go over 750 miles on combined tanks of gasoline and CNG, when the tank size allows, and with an EPA-estimated mileage of 18 mpg for combined city and highway driving.
